SEARCHING for
LLOYD GAINES

A Forthcoming Documentary Film

In 1939, Lloyd Gaines suddenly vanished.

Months earlier, Gaines had delivered an historic blow to American racism when the United States Supreme Court ordered the state of Missouri to admit him to its segregated public law school or build one for him to attend.

Under the leadership of the legendary attorney Charles Hamilton Houston and a team of NAACP lawyers, including a young Thurgood Marshall, the Gaines victory marked the beginning of the end of legal segregation in the United States.

Gaines's unsolved disappearance remains one of the great mysteries of the civil rights movement.

85 years later, Gaines's great-niece Tracy Berry, a St. Louis prosecutor, is Searching for Lloyd Gaines.
